Leaders are like Moose
I saw a moose for the first time, and, of course, I thought of leadership. When you're a leader, everyone is watching what you do...and what you don't do. Every move you make is noticed and interpreted.
About 20 of us stood on the side of the road with cameras and binoculars watching this 1800-pound beast just sit there. We gasped when he shook off a fly and his 40-pound rack rocked back and forth like a boat on a calm sea. We aaahed when he seemed to glance our way.
We aren't too different in the presence of senior leadership. We watch how leaders enter a room, where they sit, how they greet, what they're wearing and carrying, where they place their gaze.
If you're a leader, you're this moose. People are watching closely. The moves you make...and don't make...are amplified. Be intentional.
