Our Pets, Their Vets, and Mental Health

Emcee Kenny

This episode discusses mental health, and is not appropriate for small children.

Your host, Donna Peters, chats with career veterinarian, Dr. Jodi. There's a lot we're learning about wellness and mental health at work...but too little is being discussed about the professionals who do so much for the animals we love. Here we talk about the impact that the pandemic is having on us as pet owners and on the veterinary profession (70% of whom are female). You'll think differently about the vets in our lives after this powerful discussion.

Pets are family and have played a feature role in our home lives and work-from-home lives. Indeed, 70% of US households have a pet. Many households welcomed a pet for the first time during the pandemic, and many are bonding even more closely with their furry kids as we spend more time together at home working and playing. And what about the veterianarians, and the wonderful impact they have on us at our time of need? And what about the statistic that 1 in 6 vets has contemplated suicide, and vets are ~3x more likely to die by suicide than the general population.

We also have some fun with pet names:).
